Artist Profile
Michael
Ledet is a professional artist, graphic designer, and
educator.
He holds a BS from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, New
Orleans, yet is mostly self-taught.
Ledet first exhibited in New Orleans, his
birthplace and residence, in 1968. Since then his paintings
and drawings have been shown and collected from coast
to coast, in central America, and in Great Britain. His
art appears in many public collections which include AMOCO,
Arts Council of New Orleans, Banco de Guatemala, Children’s
Hospital New Orleans, Coconut Club (Beverly Hills), El
Paso Museum of Art, Hilton Hotel (Salt Lake City), Hyatt
Hotel Corporation (various locations), Louisiana Arts
and Science Center (Baton Rouge), Mississippi Museum of
Art (Jackson), New Orleans Museum of Art, Omni Hotel (Miami),
Pan American Life Center (New Orleans) and PEPSICO (Los
Angeles).
As a graphic designer specializing in publications,
he has produced award-winning books and brochures for
such clients as the Historic New Orleans Collection, Louisiana
Public Broadcasting, the New Orleans Museum of Art, the
New Orleans Arts Council and the Oak Alley Plantation
Foundation.
Ledet has conducted seminars at the Memphis
Academy of Art and taught at the University of New Orleans
and for the College of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois.
He taught in Visual Arts at Loyola University from 1989
to 1999 where he instructed courses in painting, drawing,
and art history. At Loyola New Orleans he currently teaches
Making Art / Knowing Art, a course which he designed
for City College.
He is past chairman (1991-94) of Loyola’s
Visual Arts Visiting Committee, a Louisiana State Roster
Artist and a member and past president of Phi Alpha Theta
(Alpha Epsilon Psi chapter), Our Lady of Holy Cross College,
New Orleans.
Currently, Ledet is exhibiting at Carol
Robinson Gallery in New Orleans and with Art Source L.A.
in Santa Monica, California and Rockville, Maryland. He
has recently completed commissioned works for the San
Juan Hilton, Puerto Rico and the Doral Resort in same
city.
He is designing and producing Louisiana:
An Illustrated History for Louisiana Public Broadcasting,
Jefferson’s America/Napoleon’s France
for the New Orleans Museum of Art and Charting Louisiana
for the Historic New Orleans Collections – all as
part of the 2003 Louisiana Purchase Bicentennail.
Michael Ledet lives and works, north of
New Orleans, in Hammond, Louisiana.
